I am 17 weeks pregnant today with our second child. We are waiting to find out the gender (again!) and I am so stoked for some day in late September when we will get to meet this little person. It's crazy how quickly the time has passed since we had Caleb. He turned eleven months old on Sunday. I am gearing up for his first birthday... I am making Cookie Monster cupcakes.
I am debating some pretty hefty issues right now... and I am not entirely sure that I am qualified to make such weighty decisions. I am referring to the decision about whether to have a natural VBAC (vaginal birth after ceasarean) or to have another ceasarean. Everything in me wants to go with the VBAC, but I know that there is risk of uterine rupture. I know that it is such a small/low percentage, but still, I don't know how I feel about entering into that risk. But birth is risky business (for us...in our humanness, but not for God). HOWEVER, I have been doing LOTS of research and I am learning about how, since the 1970s, it has been documented that there are more instances of fatalities with repeat c-sections than that of VBACs. This has to do largely with the fact that the type of incisions that are made with first-time c-sections is now the low transverse and not a vertical incision. The low transverse is not likely to rupture with contractions and labor. The fact that a VBAC is more healthy for mother and baby is something that is really weighing on my mind and putting me in the VBAC camp. But, I am open to hearing informed opinions on this topic, so feel free to enlighten me.
Alright, off to reorganize my closet.

hey jess, congrats on being preggo. you know - you should talk to Lauren M. about this. She had a C-section w/ Andrew and VBAC w/ John & Isaac. Anyway, that's all i have to say. hope all is well. -amanda
Hi Jess! I've been visiting your blog off and on to see when a new post was coming up. I've also been toying with the idea of starting mine up again. It's been a while. Anyway, I wanted to say hi and I'm glad you're still kicking! Love you, Becky
umm..I am pretty sure you have me confused w/ the other Amanda... This is Amanda McCleskey, not Amanda Marchlewski. :-)
Oh, Amanda! I am so sorry! I just assumed it was Amanda Marchlewski. So sorry!
Your advice about talking to Lauren is still appreciate. But how the heck are you, chica (now that I know who YOU are)?
Hello from me as well. You may as well be in another country as in the same neighborhood. Glad to hear all is well and I have been haunting your blog waiting for an update. (Not that I have any room to talk--not having updated in about a month!!)
Um, yeah, I know, Becca! Sheesh! =) Update please! I'm only kidding...
How are you doing these wonderful spring/summer days?
:) We are well. Working hard in the gardens. You wouldn't recognize the place!!
Meant to tell you I love the cookie monster cupcake. :)
I would love to see everything at your place!
Thanks(ref. to Cookie Monster). =)
I know a certain grandpa who would be glad to sample a pre run on the cupcakes just to make sure they are appropriate for Caleb.
Haha, thanks for the offer. I may take you up on that. I am sorta wondering how the cupcakes will turn out. Better to make a test batch first, probably. =)
Hey, I stumbled onto your blog when searching for cookie monster cupcake ideas...anywho I had a c-section and was contemplating what to do for my next kiddo. first off, may God bless you and baby with a safe and healthy pregnancy and birth no matter what way the little one enters the world.
I decided to pray and leave it in God's hands. We scheduled a repeat cesarian and I just prayed that if God wanted me to do a VBAc the baby would come on their own before then...My Son did not, and he was even bigger than my first son. Needless to say we and Dr.'s were glad for a repeat C and God was in control. Blessings to you!
